Surprising Uses of AI to Spark Your Creativity

Education: AI Replacing Teachers

There are already many AI-powered tools capable of providing up-to-date information on specific topics, but a groundbreaking shift has taken place at the David Game College in London. The David Game College is the first to offer classes for students between the ages of 15 to 17 without a human teacher. Instead, AI platforms and virtual reality tools are used to personalize the learning process and tailor real-time content to each student’s level and needs.

While this approach may raise concerns about the "dehumanization" of education, human teachers are still present in the classroom to address issues that AI cannot handle, such as interpersonal relationships and social skills.

Mental Health: Character.AI’s Psychologist

AI has also made its mark in mental health through Character.AI's “Psychologist” tool. Within a year, this AI psychologist received over 78 million messages from individuals aged 16 to 30 seeking emotional support.

Initially designed to assist those unable to access traditional therapy, Psychologist quickly gained popularity–especially among young people. That being said, while many users have found emotional relief through the platform, mental health professionals have expressed concerns. Although AI can be helpful in specific situations, it lacks the depth and understanding required for full-fledged therapy. Therefore, it is best used as a complementary or preliminary tool rather than a replacement for professional mental health care.

Technology: Devin, the Autonomous AI Software Engineer

Devin, the world’s first autonomous AI software engineer, is another key innovation. Developed by Cognition.AI, Devin can manage every aspect of a software project—from writing code to conducting performance tests, anticipating issues, and solving them before they arise.

This tool could be a game-changer for the tech industry, eliminating repetitive and complex tasks and allowing human engineers to focus on more creative and strategic work.

Workplace: AI in Skill Evaluation

In the workplace, AI is revolutionizing employee assessments. The British company Sage has developed Workera.AI, an AI-powered tool capable of evaluating an employee’s skills, goals, and needs.

With over 10,000 competencies programmed into its database, Workera.AI identifies strengths and areas of improvement in team members. Its main objective is to help companies optimize productivity and enhance employee learning experiences, which could lead to major improvements in overall performance.

Institutional Use: Human-Centered AI Lab

AI is being applied at the institutional level as well. The Cosmos Institute in Florida has created the Human-Centered AI Lab (HAI Lab) to develop tools that respect human autonomy and reasoning while at the same time benefiting society. The lab is focused on making sure that AI supports rather than undermines human decision-making and independence.

Security: Predictive AI for Crime Prevention in Argentina

In the realm of public safety, AI is playing a critical role in Argentina, where the government has established a specialized unit within the Directorate of Cybercrimes and Cybersecurity that uses predictive AI for crime prevention.

By monitoring social media and other communication channels, this AI system identifies behavioral patterns and potential threats in real time. While the system has the potential to improve safety, it has sparked debates about privacy violations, false alarms, and the risk of wrongful accusations. Despite these challenges, predictive AI could help authorities better monitor high-risk areas and respond more effectively to potential conflicts.

Marketing: AI-Created Influencers

AI is shaking up the marketing world too. Modeling agency, The Clueless, has leveraged AI to create virtual models and influencers, such as Aitana López (@fit_aitana), a fitness influencer with more than 330,000 Instagram followers—despite not being a real person.

Though controversial, The Clueless views this as a novel approach to digital marketing and advertising. Virtual influencers’ ability to connect with audiences as deeply as real people is still up in the air, but it is impossible to deny that it is an innovative way to engage consumers.

Home Design: Ikea AI’s Personalized Suggestions

AI has also entered the world of home design. Ikea has launched Ikea AI, a tool that simplifies the design process by allowing users to visualize how furniture will look in their spaces. It gives consumers tailored recommendations to help them make the most of a given area.

This technology aims to make the shopping process more intuitive and simple, reduce the number of returns, and boost customer satisfaction.
